What is new in Meta's Muse app?

Meta is adding voice and expressive avatars to Muse, its AI assistant. You tap the phone icon in the top-right corner of the app to start talking.

Meta previewed real-time conversations with Muse at its Connect 2026 event. Now it is rolling them out.

How does talking to Muse work?

Meta says its Muse Realtime Avatar and Muse Realtime Voice technology lets you speak to Muse and hear answers right away. You can even interrupt it.

The avatar uses subtle expressions and gestures that match the tone of the conversation. You choose how present it is: voice only, the avatar beside your chat, or full screen.

What can I use Muse voice for?

Meta suggests brainstorming, planning a trip, or rehearsing for a job interview or a presentation. It says Muse can keep working in the background while you talk, for example while you are on a walk or when your hands are full.

There are hundreds of voices to choose from, such as the energy of a New Yorker or the flair of a pirate, and you can change it whenever you want.

Who can use it?

Voice and expressive avatars are rolling out now in the Muse app in the US to start. They work on mobile, web and Mac.

Why does it matter?

Talking is easier than typing for many people, and a face that reacts makes an AI feel more like a person. Meta is betting that will bring people back to its assistant.

It also raises the usual questions about how much people should treat an AI like a friend, which Meta's post does not address.

What's next?

Meta says voice conversations with Muse are coming soon to its AI Glasses and to Muse Charm. It gave no date and no list of other countries.
