TypeSafe AI raises $870 million for Jev, an AI model that writes no text
On 9 October 2026, TypeSafe AI announced a Series A of $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz. The company makes Jev, an AI model that does not write text. It returns set answers with a probability for each, and the company says it is far faster and cheaper than chat models for software tasks.

What did TypeSafe AI announce?
On 9 October 2026, TypeSafe AI said it raised $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation, in a Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz. Sequoia Capital, existing investor DCVC and a group of angel investors also took part.
Martin Casado joins the board. The company says a third of the Fortune 500 already use its model, Jev. We could not check that number.

What is Jev, and how is it different from ChatGPT?
Jev is what TypeSafe calls a System One model. It does not write text. You give it the state of a program, and it returns answers from a list set in advance, each with a probability.
Founder Diogo Almeida, who says he worked on the methods behind ChatGPT at OpenAI, puts it this way: "Think of Jev as a frontier-intelligence function call: unstructured state in, typed probabilistic decisions out."
Because answers come from a fixed list, TypeSafe says the model cannot make formatting errors. Jev gives up chat to get this.

How fast and cheap is Jev?
TypeSafe says Jev answers in 70 to 500 milliseconds, while frontier chat models take 3 to 329 seconds for the same kind of task. It lists Jev's input price at $0.042 per million tokens and says output is free.
On its own test of four workflows, the company says Jev is 193.6x faster and 444.6x cheaper, and that this is on the high end of what to expect in real use.

What kinds of jobs is Jev made for?
TypeSafe says Jev suits smart if-statements inside software: sorting emails, routing requests, scoring or checking other AI outputs, and going through large piles of data. It does not suit chat or writing.

What is still unproven?
The speed, cost and accuracy results are TypeSafe's own. The company says its test workflows were made by its own team, so some bias could exist, and that it cannot prove its prices are not subsidized.
No independent test of Jev has been published that we have seen.
Why does it matter?
Most AI news is about chatbots. This round shows top investors also backing AI that works inside software without writing anything.
What's next?
TypeSafe says it will build more machine-native models, add enterprise features and hire. It gave no dates.
Questions people ask
How much did TypeSafe AI raise?
TypeSafe AI says it raised $870 million in a Series A at a $7.5 billion valuation, announced on 9 October 2026.
Who invested in TypeSafe AI?
Andreessen Horowitz led the round. Sequoia Capital, DCVC and angel investors also took part, and Martin Casado joins the board.
What is Jev?
Jev is TypeSafe AI's first public System One model. It does not write text. It returns set answers with a probability for each.
Can Jev replace ChatGPT?
No. Jev gives up text generation, so it cannot chat or write. It is built for fast decisions inside software.
Are TypeSafe's speed and cost claims independently checked?
Not that we have seen. The results come from TypeSafe's own tests.
