OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI to ChatGPT users
On 7 October 2026, OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT's Chat tab, with a new feature called Intelligent UI. What is GPT-6 with Intelligent UI?
OpenAI says it is bringing a new GPT-6 model to the more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT each week. Its headline feature is Intelligent UI, which lets ChatGPT answer with text, visuals and interactive elements, choosing how they fit together based on the question.
OpenAI says responses can include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and interactive experiences. When plain text is the most useful answer, ChatGPT can still give that.
What can Intelligent UI do?
OpenAI gives three kinds of example. Everyday questions get more visual answers, such as a Sunday roast plan with the timing beside the recipe, or road trip stops on a map. Complex topics become interactive explanations you can explore, like the central limit theorem or the Monty Hall problem.
You can also ask ChatGPT to create a tool, such as a calculator for savings growth, a bill splitter or a game you can play in the conversation.
Is GPT-6 faster?
OpenAI says ChatGPT can now interleave thinking with answering: it begins to answer while it keeps working, and adds to the answer in several parts.
In an internal OpenAI test of everyday agentic tasks, GPT-6 Extra High began answering as fast as GPT-5.6 Medium and scored better than GPT-5.6 Extra High. For questions that need web search, GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner than GPT-5.6 Instant, on average. These are OpenAI's own results.
Who can use GPT-6 in ChatGPT?
It rolls out globally to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans today, in the Chat tab. Free and Go plans follow tomorrow. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings.
Paid plans run GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go plans run GPT-6 Luna. The models behind Work and Codex are not changing in this release.
How safe is GPT-6?
OpenAI says GPT-6 is better at resisting attempts to bypass its safety training, especially attacks that build up over several turns, and clearer about what it cannot do. It points to a system card for the details.
Why does it matter?
Most people use ChatGPT as a text box. If answers become interactive screens and small tools made on the spot, the same app can do more without anyone learning new software. OpenAI itself says there is still work ahead on the model's design judgment.

Free and Go users should see GPT-6 from 8 October 2026. OpenAI says it wants ChatGPT to create more of the interfaces people need over time.
