Anthropic releases Claude Haiku 5.5, its cheapest and fastest Claude model
On 7 October 2026, Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5, its smallest and fastest Claude model, built for high-volume, cost-sensitive work. It costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts up to 100K tokens. Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise users can select it in Claude.ai, and developers can use it on the Claude Platform.

What is Claude Haiku 5.5?
Claude Haiku 5.5 is the smallest model in Anthropic's Claude 5.5 family. Anthropic calls it its fastest, cheapest and most capable small model yet, designed for high-volume, cost-sensitive work.
It is also the first Haiku with effort controls, so teams can tune cost against intelligence for each task.

How much does Claude Haiku 5.5 cost?
For prompts up to 100K tokens, it costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens on the Claude Platform. For prompts over 100K tokens, it costs $0.50 per million input tokens and $2.50 per million output tokens.
Anthropic says prompt caching can save up to 90% and batch processing 50%. The model name for developers is claude-haiku-5-5.
Who can use Claude Haiku 5.5?
Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise users can select Haiku 5.5 in Claude.ai on web, iOS and Android. Developers can use it on the Claude Platform, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry. It is also in Claude Code.
How good is Claude Haiku 5.5?
Anthropic says it is a significant step up over Haiku 4.5 on coding, tool use, computer use and agents. In its own table, Haiku 5.5 scores 72.4% on the OSWorld 2.1 computer-use test, against 15.7% for Haiku 4.5 and 48.9% for GPT-6 Luna. Sonnet 5.5, a larger model, scores 83.9%.
These are Anthropic's own results. Independent tests are not out yet.
In early testing, Claude Haiku 5.5 scored 11 points higher than Haiku 4.5 at about half the latency.

What is Haiku 5.5 for?
Anthropic lists high-volume text tasks such as summaries and sorting, real-time chat and voice, small helper agents, browser and desktop automation, and simple coding. For complex coding and knowledge work, it points to Opus 5.5.
Why does it matter?
A cheaper, faster model lets companies add AI to more everyday features, like support chat or document search, without a large bill.
